The Record Breaking Streak of Matt Carpenter

St. Louis Cardinals Third Baseman, Matt Carpenter, has been on an absolute tear ever since the All-Star Break. Carpenter has hit for a .400 Batting Average with 6 home runs and 10 RBI’s during the last 8 games since the All-Star Break.

To put some of these stats into perspective, Carpenter had extended his consecutive games with a home run streak to 6, which is good for the longest single-season streak in Cardinals’ history. He extended his streak during Saturday’s double header against the Cubs, notching a home run in each game, finishing with a stat line of 5 for 5, with 3 home runs and 7 RBI’s. It is amazing that Carpenter hit a home run in each game, especially as he did not start in the second game.

Carpenter has now totaled 10 home runs in the month of July (8 of those being during his streak), making him the first Cardinals player with at least 10 home runs in July since Jim Edmonds in 2004 and being the first player since Barry Bonds also in 2004 to hit at least 8 home runs during a six-game home run streak.

As July is coming to an end, it will be interesting to see if Carpenter will be able to keep up with this hot streak.
